Chapter 1: BASIC GAME DRIBBLING
Chapter 1 explains the three basic dribbling situations that occur in real games. The techniques in this chapter are basic, but these skills are essential to being able to handle the ball in real games. Plus, you must master the basics before you can move onto the advanced stuff taught in the next 6 chapters. One of the most important aspects to becoming a great ball handler is to be able to change from one type of dribble to another - at game speed. This change is actually when most dribbling turnovers occur, but Coach Torbett explains how to avoid these miscues. 4 minutes, 39 seconds |
The video's first chapter covers all the basics. Here, the power dribble is demonstrated by players, and explained by Coach Rick Torbett. Coach is talking in the background, as the players demonstrate the techniques.

Chapter 2: DRILLS TO IMPROVE YOUR BALL CONTROL AND HAND SPEED
Better Ball Handling's signature chapter! 12-year-old dribbling phenom Andy Garcia demonstrates 115 drills to improve your ball control and hand speed. A counter in the top right corner of the screen (see the pictures) will let you know exactly what number each drill is, out of 115. Each drill is also named! The chapter is divided into 10 sections. Examples include Fingertip Control and 2 Ball Stationary. Some of the drills are so difficult that even advanced ball handlers need months to master them. #115 might be the toughest drill you've ever seen, but this 12-year-old has it down!! 13 minutes, 22 seconds |
Andy Garcia at work! He's exciting, amazing and only 12 years old! All 115 of the drills he demonstrates will help to improve your handles. There's going to be at least 20 or 30 drills from this chapter that are completely new to even the most experienced players. You'll have a lifetime of drills to work on. Most of the chapter is shown in a format similar to the one to the left. The drill (in this case the "Double Windmill") comes in on the left side of the screen, taking up a huge area. It stays there for about 5 seconds, before moving to the next two spots for 5 seconds each. In other words, each drill is actually on screen for over 15 seconds! How else could we have fit 115 drills into one chapter? |
Chapter 3: STRAIGHT LINE MOVES
In chapter 3, Coach Torbett dissects straight line moves, such as the Hesitation and Fake Crossover. For each move, coach explains exactly how the move is executed, and when it should be used in games. He also gives secrets to getting the most out of the move, and how to set up your defender before using the move. 2 minutes, 56 seconds |
In the picture to the left, two players demonstrate the keys to the hesitation. Coach Torbett explains the details, and players with awesome handles do the demonstrating. It's almost as much fun to watch the players' moves as it is to learn from Coach Torbett! |
Chapter 4: CHANGE OF DIRECTION MOVES
Chapter 4 is similar to chapter 3, except the focus is on change of direction moves. Examples include the Crossover and Spin. Before you move on to advanced moves (chapter five), you must master all of the moves in chapters 3 and 4. All advanced moves are basically an extension of the moves in these two chapters. 5 minutes, 09 seconds |
The crossover is certainly one of the most exciting moves in basketball. If you're willing to put in the work, Coach Torbett breaks down every detail to ensure you develop a true killer crossover! |
Chapter 5: ADVANCED MOVES
In the Advanced Moves chapter, Coach Torbett breaks down some of the most advanced and unstoppable moves in basketball. He explains exactly how they work, why the defender will get beaten if you use them correctly, and when to use them in games. Examples of Better Ball Handling's Advanced Moves include the Half Spin and Lean In and the Pull Back Crossover. Although many of the moves are difficult to master, you can become unstoppable off the dribble, at any level, if you can add them to your repertoire. 5 minutes, 9 seconds |
Many of these advanced moves are to be used against a single defender, but the pull-back crossover is used to get out of double teams. Once you master it, you'll never get trapped and turn the ball over again. How does it work? |
Chapter 6: TRAINING
In this chapter, Coach Torbett explains 9 workouts you can use to improve your dribbling skills. The methods are unique and fun. Working on your handles will never get boring with the training workouts in this chapter. There are workouts you can do by yourself, with a partner, or against a static opponent (such as a chair). 6 minutes, 51 seconds |
Hyper Moves is one of the most entertaining and fun ways to improve your handles. Here, 3 players demonstrate as Coach Torbett explains. By the way, watching these three point-guards demonstrate Hyper Moves may be worth the price of the video by itself! |
Chapter 7: GAME HINTS
The Game Hints chapter is a phenomenal tool for players of all abilities, from pros on down. Coach Torbett gives 9 simple but effective ways that you can beat defenders in games. Examples include how to avoid the big brother pick, and how to execute the safety spin. Even professional point guards will learn something from this chapter. There's a bunch of rare information packed into just a few minutes. If you've ever found yourself getting into traps or having your pocket picked, and you can't figure out why, this chapter will have the answers! 4 minutes, 41 seconds |
The hints chapter is full of simple things you can do to help yourself in games. Here, the offensive player makes one of the most common, and most costly, mistakes! What is it?

INTRODUCTION, CONCLUSION, & FINAL THOUGHTS
Better Ball Handling also features an intro and a short ending. But even these sections contain some valuable techniques. In the intro, for example, Coach Torbett explains exactly how the hand and fingers should function when dribbling, and then he goes into a powerful secret to developing great handles.
Better Ball Handling may be Better Basketball's most entertaining video. Rick Barry, who has put 4 sons into pro ball, believes ball handling is the first skill players should master, and he highly recommends Better Ball Handling to make it happen. And the best part is that developing great dribbling skills can be an absolute blast! With the unstoppable handles this video can help you develop, a great shot (with the help of Better Shooting) and a deep understanding of how best to attack a defender (with the help of Better 1 on 1 Offense) you can become a complete offensive threat!
