Developing the Read & React Player – [Introduction]

Welcome to “Developing the Read & React Player!”

This is a new series of videos we will be releasing over the next few months that take you through Player Development one layer at a time. We think Read & React players and coaches will love it!

For those players and coaches not running the Read & React, you will still benefit from this course. Here’s why:

The Read & React is a positionless system that teaches players how to play offense as a 5-player coordinated unit without set plays, without patterns, without possession-by-possession instructions from the coach. This means, that it’s probable that as we go through the Read & React, we will cover every basketball action that’s ever been used or ever will be used. We will certainly cover some that should be used that aren’t being used!

So, first I want to make sure that you know where the scoring opportunities are – and second, that you have the skills to convert them.

That’s what this series is all about: Equipping the Read & React player as best we can to take advantage of ALL the scoring opportunities.

Let me explain ONE more way by addressing the coaches: Your Read & React actions may be perfect. You may be a master teacher of the system, but it will only be as effective as each of your individual player’s ability to handle the ball, pass, catch on the move, screen, play off the screen, post up, catch and shoot, drive in any directions from any spot on the floor – just to name a few of the 40+ skills I’ve identified! And just as important as having the skill is knowing WHERE to apply it in the Read & React!

So, the Read & React will teach your players WHAT to do. This series will teach them HOW to do it!

Even in this introduction, I want to you to have a “take-away” – something you can use and apply immediately and something that I’ll reference throughout the series.
