Upcoming R&R Clinics
Why come to a Read & React Clinic?
Simple. Our goal is to make you say after every session, “that session alone was worth the time, effort, price of the clinic”. If we can get you feeling like that after one section, then you’re good to go. But, like I said, our goal is to have you feel it three, four, even five times before the weekend is up.
How do we do it?
Well, the clinic is not about Rick, it’s about “us” – you, Rick, the Tribe, and stretching the Read & React as a community. Sure, Rick teaches (a lot), but he also passes on those adjustments or phrases or teaching methodologies that he’s picked up from other Read & React coaches along the way – coaches like you. He asks you questions. He wants you to be involved. And each clinic is slightly different based on the community of coaches that attends. You’ll learn from Rick about the Read & React while you’re there of course, but you’ll also learn from and about your Tribe (and you might just teach them as well).
A Read & React clinic becomes a laboratory where we can get together and sort out any struggles you’re having. Need questions answered? Ask Rick during a session. Ask Rick between sessions. Ask another R&R coach during a break (or even while Rick’s speaking – trust me, he won’t mind). No question, situation, problem, suggestion, whatever will go unaddressed. You’ll find that Rick won’t leave until you do. As you can imagine, he’d rather talk about the Read & React than anything else.
So, check out the dates, make your plans, and get ready to meet a bunch of coaches who are as passionate about the game and the Read & React as you are. And, don’t be surprised if you find yourself saying after the first session, “that session alone was worth the trip.”

“Advanced” clinics are focused on the intricacies of the R&R. We start Day 1 assuming that you are at least familiar with the layers and it’s even better if you have some experience implementing them. That way, we can spend all our time on the following topics:
- new teaching paths and methodologies based on your level.
- how to teach the Next Best Action.
- planning practices and executing those plans.
- collapsing time frames in practice.
- building the R&R in the off-season.
- using the R&R to train your defense.
- how to coach the R&R in games.
- locating the best scoring opportunities within each formation.
- using changes in actions to change scoring opportunities.
- communicating changes in action with codes.
- initiating specific actions with quick hitters.
- building your transition game.
And, we have guest speakers! This year’s “Advanced” clinics will feature sections by Read & React veteran coaches. We’re still finalizing schedules but each clinic will feature at least two of the following:
- TJ Rosene, NCCAA National Champion, Emmanuel College Men
- Iowa University Women’s Coaching staff, (unsure of specific coaches yet)
- Randy Peterson, Iowa Conference Coach of the Year, Coe College Women
Upcoming Basics Clinics
Vancouver, BC
This clinic has been postponed.
The new dates are pending and
will be posted shortly.
Douglas College
700 Royal Avenue
New Westminster,
British Columbia, V3L 5B2
$95 for each attendee
A “Basics” clinic is layer intensive. We’ll spend the entire first day knocking out all the layers of the Read & React – what the layers are, the philosophy behind them, how they dovetail together, how to teach them well, training with spots, and a lot more. It is a detailed overview of the entire offensive system.
Day 2 focuses your big picture of the Read & React into the details of day-to-day coaching operations:
- designing an entire practice without leaving the R&R.
- using the R&R for player development.
- attacking zones.
And, of course, any and all questions will be answered either during sessions or after sessions.
We’ve seen coaches with even high degrees of Read & React experience walk out of a “Basics” clinic with a workbook full of notes. But, we believe this type of clinic is best suited for those coaches who have just begun to implement the Offense, those who will be putting it in this season, coaches who focus on younger levels, or coaches who are trying to decide if R&R is right for them.
