MORE INFORMATION
2008 Read and React Clinic Schedule, to give you an idea of what's on the clinic footage DVDs.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26th
| 5:00pm – 8:00pm |
REGISTRATION AND DISCUSSION OPPORTUNITIES
Coach Torbett and a few coaches running the system will be there to greet you, and answer your initial questions about the Read and React. |
|
| 8:00pm – 10:45pm |
SESSION 1
Coach Torbett will take a youth team (12 year olds) through the foundation layers of the R&R Offense. The build up drills and teaching techniques will be emphasized. The goal will be to demonstrate that a youth team can have a working, practical, principled offense with only the foundational layers of the Read & React Offense, and to see the foundation layers inserted with great detail. Much of the theory of the Read and React will be discussed. |
|
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th
| 8:00am - 9:30am |
BREAKFAST (provided) AND DISCUSSION OPPORTUNITIES |
| 9:30am - 12:30pm |
SESSION 2
The Read & React Offense will be taught and implemented with
a real college men's team. Emphasis will be on HOW to teach the offense in a
practical “practice” setting, along with how to get a pre-season
head start. |
|
| 12:30pm – 1:30pm |
LUNCH (provided) AND DISCUSSION OPPORTUNITIES |
| 1:30pm – 7:00pm |
SESSION 3 (with short breaks)
Completion of the Read & React, along with tips, variations, and teaching points from those coaches who have experience running the Read & React Offense. We’ll also explore the variety of looks and sets depending on the strengths, weaknesses, types of players, and coaching philosophy. Again, a men's college team will be used. |
|
| 7:00pm – 8:30pm |
DINNER (optional) |
| 8:30-10:00 |
COACHES SOCIAL (optional) |
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28th
| 11:00am - 2:30pm |
SESSION 4
We’ll begin late on Sunday. Clinic topics to be covered will include: attacking zones, implementing quick hitters, collapsing practice time frames, sharpening both defense and offense at the same time, how shell defense fits the Read & React, delay games, and more. Again, a men's college team will be used to demonstrate the Read and React Offense. |
| 2:30pm – 6:00pm |
CONTINUED DISCUSSION FOR ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS
This “overflow” time will allow for an extension of session 4. And Coach Torbett will remain as long as needed to make sure no questions go unanswered, and no topics go unresolved. |
THOUGHTS BY CLINIC ATTENDEES
Many of the coaches who attended the clinic have decided to implement the Read and React Offense with their team this year. We asked a few of them for their thoughts on why they’ll be using this unique system, and four such responses can be viewed by clicking the links below. We will be adding more coaches' responses in the coming weeks.

CLINIC TESTIMONIALS
By the way, the clinic DVDs have been very helpful. To be able to go check out a certain aspect of the offense as you taught it is priceless. Seeing it helps with the little details that I might not have gotten in my notes. Pure genius!!!
Coach Mike Severa

Just wanted to let you guys know I really enjoyed the clinic. I think Rick did a great job putting this “offense” together. I’m really excited about implementing it into my AAU team’s offense.
Coach Corliss Williamson
I am really enjoying the R&R offense. It is the best way of teaching offensive principles I have seen in 25 years of being a basketball coach.
Your Clinic presentation of the Read & React Offensive system is the best thing a coach could sit through.
I have always been a huge Don Meyer student. With adding the Read and React, it has completed my system of play. My only regret is that I did not get this system earlier in my career.
It has been an answered prayer to me as a coach. I felt like this year I was becoming a little stagnant in my approach to teaching basketball. I feel like I have new life, especially as it relates to my look on the game and teaching players how to play.
It is amazing how I see many of my set plays in your system, but now the kids seem to play with much more confidence within the flow of the game.
We worked on the R&R for 3 days with the basic 3-4 layers. I was so excited about trying it out. I was amazed at the shot selection and easy baskets we got.
Combine the Read and React System with our Don Meyer defensive system and basketball is fun to coach!
Coach Mark Tebbs

Thanks again for putting this all together. I have found the offense DVDs and the clinic DVDs make it very easy to know how to teach your concepts to the kids. I have always emphasized as a youth coach that it should be fun, and the R&R surely has made it fun.
