SUPERCHARGE YOUR OFFENSE

When you equip your team to move the ball, move players, and maintain the correct amount of spacing, you will create an “athletic ball” that will find a scoring opportunity – it will find a defensive breakdown!

Why should you play like everyone else when all of your opponents are prepared for traditional basketball?

This course will teach your team how to play in a way that none of your opponents are prepared for and give your players the competitive edge you’ve been looking for!

"...our kids love the freedom to score!"

“Southern NH University Women’s Basketball is coming off our best year in 30+ years.  21-7 overall, NE10 Regular Season Champions,  1st in NCAA Northeast Region, and hosted the NE10.

SNHU runs the Read and React. Our offense was fun to watch!

We play an exciting brand of basketball, and our kids love the freedom to score! We led the league in scoring with 72.5 ppg.

We had two First Team All-Conference players and one 3rd Team All-Conference player.  We had one WBCA All-American Honorable Mention as well.”

WHAT COACHES HAVE TO SAY

Well we made our State Tournament with a 25-1 record and won our first 2 games at State. 27-3. We made lots of memories, and for an ol' football coach, I sure love coaching basketball thanks to your offense. Thank you,

You see we had a very athletic team but only one of the girls on the team was really a basketball player, all the rest of them were soccer players. Well, after a few years of implementation, we did it. We made it all the way to the State Championship and we won. That was in 2019. In 2020 we made it back to the State Semifinals but that was when Covid hit... I tell you this as a thank you for helping us teach a group of soccer players how to play basketball and win a State Championship.

If you are questioning R&R, we just went 27 varsity games without having ever called a “play”. I certainly made points of emphasizing certain actions, but my girls learned how to adapt on their own to what the defense threw at them. They’ve learned HOW to play, not plays – and it only will get better as we move forward with a year of experience under most of their belts.

2022 Tournament Games

Gonzaga using a dribble-at (R&R layer 3) backdoor right into a dribble hand-off (R&R layer 8). Both the timing mixed with the spacing create an open layup.

Both clips in this video use combo actions with ball screens (R&R layer 8.) The first clip combines a ball screen and dribble at (R&R layer 3), while the second features a ball screen with a safety valve (R&R layer 4.)

Look for the pass and cut (R&R layer 1) in both the first and third clip in this vido and a dribble at (layer 3) in the second clip.   (Read & React pass and cut is sometimes referred to as “throw-n-go.”)

THE FOUNDATION: CREATING 5-PLAYER COORDINATION

The first four Layers of the System tie everyone together. Instead of 2-player and 3-player games, all actions become 5 player games, creating 100% accountability – no more “blame-game”! These layers are primarily reactions to the ball handler and teach how to score using space, movement, and the predictable reactions of defenders. The first layer alone will teach your team 14 scoring opportunities!

DECISION-MAKING WITHOUT THE BALL

It’s rare to find players who know how to play without the ball, but 80% of your time is spent without the ball. Layers 6-9 address the decision-making of players without the ball which leads your team into all the screening actions that exist in the game of basketball. Only now, your players will learn why to screen, when to screen, and who to screen as counter-moves to how defense tries to adjust to the Foundation Layers 1- 4.

REVOLUTIONIZE PLAYING IN THE POST

Why do we plant players in the lane? Is it even necessary to have a traditional Post Player? If so, where do they play? Ball-side or Weak-side? High Post, Mid- Post, or Short Corner?

Given the freedom, can players switch from inside to outside and vice-versa in a single possession? Are you playing someone in the post because that’s where they are the biggest threat or are you playing them in the post because they can’t play anywhere else? Why do we manage our team that way?

All of these questions and more are answered in the longest single section in the system called Post Screens.

TRANSITION: NEVER "SET IT UP"

Once the system is taught, you’ll want to extend it to the full-court. Layer 10 teaches your team how to flow seamlessly from rebound, to transition, to half-court attack without “setting it up”. No only is this the best way to attack defense while it is still disorganized, but it is also the best way to steal time from the shot clock. Playing against a shot clock is reason alone to play Read & React! The drills of Layer 10 might be the only thing your team needs for conditioning!
