KINDLE THEIR ENJOYMENT OF THE GAME

The Youth Level is where the best teachers of the game need to be!

If basketball is introduced correctly, then there are no limits for players and teams. If it’s done incorrectly, then players are stunted, many quit, and the joy of playing is sucked out of the game!

The Read & React System not only allows but directly teaches multiple ways every kid can be successful. It is designed to capture and nurture the energy and creativity of our youth.

Although the system is taught in the same order for youth as it is for older players, certain scoring opportunities are limited based on the skill and athleticism levels of our youth. This course will teach and emphasize what is applicable and available if you coach youth basketball.

Youth Read & React Offense

When you equip your team to move the ball, move players, and maintain the correct amount of spacing, you will create an “athletic ball” that will find a scoring opportunity – it will find a defensive breakdown!

Why should you play like everyone else when all of your opponents are prepared for traditional basketball?

This course will teach your team how to play in a way that none of your opponents are prepared for and give your players the competitive edge you’ve been looking for!

You'll Learn how...

take a look inside...

LAYER 1: PERIMETER PASSING, CUTTING, FILLING, SPACING

The system starts with the number one action players default to: PASSING EAST-WEST. The Read & React turns this action into a scoring opportunity and creates the backbone of player movement, ball movement, and spacing. Passing, Cutting, Filling and Spacing also creates scoring opportunities for driving, shooting, and playing without the ball – so many opportunities that many teams feel like Layer 1 is all they need for an effective offense.

LAYER 2: PASSING INTO THE POST; WHOSE TURN IS IT?

Your team will eventually pass the ball towards the goal that will not result in a shot. In other words, what does everyone do when the ball is caught in the post? This layer will change how you and your team look at “posting”. This action is for everyone on your team and will lead your team into the basics of the Read & React Zone Attack.

LAYER 3: DRIBBLING EAST-WEST

The second most often used action by any player at any level is to dribble the ball east-west, along the perimeter. The Read & React changes this action into a scoring opportunity for players being dribbled-at, for players filling the empty spot behind the dribbler, and becomes a driving opportunity for the ballhandler. This is a tool for initiating your possessions without passing the ball, for beginning your post actions, for creating Real Estate, and for setting up Draft Drives.

LAYER 4: DRIBBLING NORTH-SOUTH DRIVING TO THE GOAL

Some will argue that for some youth players, driving to the goal is their number one go-to-action! This layer will teach the players without the ball what to do when their teammates drive. These reactions without the ball are also for the sake of the ballhandler and are based on the natural reactions of defenders. Your players will learn how to “bail out” of a bad drive without creating a turnover.

SCREENING ACTIONS FOR YOUTH PLAYERS

Many times, screening actions are a detriment to youth players rather than an advantage. Many times a ball screen simply brings two defenders to the ball handler who does not yet have the ball-handling skills needed to navigate 4 players in a tight space. This section will teach the more practical and natural screening actions that can be expected from our youth.

FOLDING EVERYTHING INTO FULL-COURT

Once the system is taught, you’ll want to extend it to the full-court. Players will be taught how to run the floor, where to go, and their next best action. Layer 10 teaches your team how to flow seamlessly from rebound, to transition, to half-court attack without “setting it up”. This layer extends the habits of play to breaking presses and the “Full-Court Trips” of Layer 10 might be the only thing your team needs for conditioning!

WHAT COACHES HAVE TO SAY

Well we made our State Tournament with a 25-1 record and won our first 2 games at State. 27-3. We made lots of memories, and for an ol' football coach, I sure love coaching basketball thanks to your offense. Thank you,

You see we had a very athletic team but only one of the girls on the team was really a basketball player, all the rest of them were soccer players. Well, after a few years of implementation, we did it. We made it all the way to the State Championship and we won. That was in 2019. In 2020 we made it back to the State Semifinals but that was when Covid hit... I tell you this as a thank you for helping us teach a group of soccer players how to play basketball and win a State Championship.

If you are questioning R&R, we just went 27 varsity games without having ever called a “play”. I certainly made points of emphasizing certain actions, but my girls learned how to adapt on their own to what the defense threw at them. They’ve learned HOW to play, not plays – and it only will get better as we move forward with a year of experience under most of their belts.

"...our kids love the freedom to score!"

“Southern NH University Women’s Basketball is coming off our best year in 30+ years.  21-7 overall, NE10 Regular Season Champions,  1st in NCAA Northeast Region, and hosted the NE10.

SNHU runs the Read and React. Our offense was fun to watch!

We play an exciting brand of basketball, and our kids love the freedom to score! We led the league in scoring with 72.5 ppg.

We had two First Team All-Conference players and one 3rd Team All-Conference player.  We had one WBCA All-American Honorable Mention as well.”
